Two highly anticipated exhibitions open tomorrow. Hopper Drawing,
the first major exhibition to reveal the creative process of the iconic
American artist, pairs many of Hopper's greatest paintings with their
preparatory drawings. Also debuting tomorrow, David Hockney: The Jugglers marks the U.S. premiere of the Pop artist's first video installation.
June 2 is your last chance to see the much celebrated Jay DeFeo: A Retrospective. That day families are also invited to join us for a Hopper-inspired Family Day, complete with tours, workshops, and an artist-led drawing project.

NAIAS 2014 Chairman Bob Shuman said show dates are virtually the same as those for the 2013 event, which proved to be popular with journalists and manufacturers. "We're extremely diligent about providing excellent customer service to patrons of the NAIAS," said Shuman. "The two week cushion between the holidays and our opening day is really appreciated by the thousands of people who cover, build and participate in the show." Shuman, who recently led the NAIAS executive committee to the Geneva International Motor Show, and was a guest of honor at the Seoul International Motor Show in South Korea, along with NAIAS Executive Director, Rod Alberts, said based on recent meetings with automakers, the 2014 NAIAS is expected to be a spectacular, global event. Amid China’s epochal transformations over the last two decades, new
documentary aesthetics emerged, as the overwhelming cultural and
societal challenges caused by China’s transition to a free-market
economy compelled professional and amateur filmmakers alike to capture
new realities on screen. Working largely outside the state media
apparatus, pioneer filmmakers like Wu Wenguang, Zhang Yuan, and Duan
Jinchuan provided bracing alternative visions of both society and
filmmaking, with an ethos based on direct observation of reality and
uncensored personal expression. This series aims to reflect the evolution of documentary practice in
China over the past 25 years, revealing the growth and ever-increasing
influence of nonfiction film and media. The selections, encompassing a
wide expanse of Chinese film and media, including state-approved
productions, underground amateur videos, and Web-based Conceptual art,
provide a vivid look into a society in perpetual transformation. Some
screenings will be presented by the filmmakers and scholars.
