Say Lou Lou by Vogue Italia

Raised between Sydney and Stockholm by musician parents, twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey, aka Say Lou Lou, started singing and writing songs as a game when they were children without ever imagining that it would become a career.
At 15, they recorded some demos in their uncle’s recording studio and uploaded the result onto soundcloud to share the songs with friends and family. These became their first single, Maybe you which, produced by the Parisian label Kitsuné, launched them on the international artistic scene.
We met the Australian-Swedish duo in Milan at their DJ set for the launch of the eyewear collection by Giorgio Armani and Luxottica and talked to them about their idea of music, art and fashion.
The name Say Lou Lou comes from a family story according to which, despite the sweet and feminine name, the great-aunt Lou Lou, an English woman who migrated to Australia was, allegedly, a very mean lady who enjoyed tormenting their grandmother.
The duality between the name and the actual person is a feature that characterizes Say Lou Lou’s music who display an ethereal sound but dark lyrics; the perfect alchemy between Australian folk and Swedish electro music.
The twins play heavily on the idea of such intrinsic duality by giving their "dreamy electropop" a retro yet very current mood that is also mirrored in their style and the aesthetics of their photos and videos.
