Savvy art lovers flock to ArtCenter/South Florida’s winningART every year, where collectors and partygoers in-the-know add to their collections with the region’s most promising up-and-coming artists. Winners take all this year at the new crowning event for winningART: the pARTy on Lincoln Road, Saturday night March 16, 7:00-11:00 p.m. Proceeds help fund ArtCenter’s mission of advancing contemporary visual arts and culture in South Florida, providing affordable studios, programming and work space for professional artists. ArtCenter/South Florida, the cultural epicenter of South Beach's Lincoln Road, welcomes more than 100,000 visitors every year and has been home to more than 1,000 resident artists since its founding in 1984. This year’s winningART culminates with ArtCenter’s new pARTy on Lincoln Road, featuring live entertainment from a specially curated group of performance-art provocateurs: - The beautifully bizarre antics of CircX - Renowned artist-designer and new ArtCenter resident artist Karelle Levy; - Nu Flamenco, featuring Miami’s very own Niurca Marquez and musician Jose Luis Rodriguez, direct from Spain - DJ Mauricio Parra from MTV/Tr3s The evening includes a digital scavenger hunt and a silent auction replete with sexy travel getaways and more surprises. If the secret to successful collecting is all about discovering new trends and artists first, winningART’s pARTy is the perfect event to master this fine art. Past resident artists at ArtCenter that have risen through the ranks to become sought after by the art world’s cognoscenti include: Carlos Alves, Carlos Betancourt, William Cordova, Edouard Duval-Carrie, Teresita Fernandez, Luis Gispert, Julie Kahn, Beatriz Monteavaro, Gavin Perry, Tomata du Plenty, Carolina Sardi, Jen Stark, Eugenia Vargas, Michelle Weinberg, Wendy Wischer, Agustina Woodgate, and more. This year proves to be no exception thanks to ArtCenter’s current roster, some already represented by galleries in the U.S. and abroad. winningART was created in 2001 by ArtCenter’s community of artists to honor the memory of one of their own, artist Michael Richards who died during the September 11th attacks (the artist was in his New York studio that morning, on the 92nd floor of the World Trade Center’s Lower Manhattan Cultural Council galleries). His friends at ArtCenter spearheaded the very first winningART event to establish a fund in his name to support emerging visual artists. The ArtCenter then adopted winningART as an annual fundraiser to benefit the ArtCenter and artist-driven projects. All of the works donated by the resident artists are on exhibit at ArtCenter’s Richard Shack Gallery at 800 Lincoln Road, starting February 23rd and on view for the three weeks leading up to the pARTy on Lincoln Road on March 16th. The collection of works may also be viewed online at artcentersf.org/winningart.
