To celebrate our arrival in this beautiful city, we’re giving music aficionados the chance to share their talent by creating an original piece of music. “How?” You ask.

Well. Teaming up with Jerry Bouthier from Kitsuné, our Sound of Paris competition is all about highlighting some of the freshest musical talent in the city. So we are asking residents of Paris-Île-de-France to create their own original track that represents the sound of the city. But there’s a twist, pioneers of electronic music themselves, Kitsuné have put together a sound pack containing elements you must use in your compositions.

If you’re a musician, music producer, DJ or just super talented with a love for electronic music and you live in Paris-Île-de-France – then we want you.

Joao Penalva
27th March — 25th April
12 Berkeley Street, W1J 8DT

Simon Lee Gallery is proud to announce a solo exhibition of new work by the London–based Portuguese artist, João Penalva, his third with the gallery.
While he works across many media, photography is central to Penalva’s practice. At the core of his use of the medium is the ambiguity of its relationship to fact and fiction. Often shown accompanied by narrative text, Penalva’s photograph, slide and film installations suggest themselves as documentary, but jarring notes or a fictional tone offer other potential readings. This uncertainty seems to question the very possibility of the photograph to act as an independent or impartial document.

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils
27th March — 23rd April
11 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HR

The artist's long awaited return to the UK follows Devoid, his last major collection presented at Lazarides Rathbone in 2012. Dissonance explores notions of increased saturation and dilution of personal identities in contemporary urban societies, reflecting the uniformity and abstraction brought about by the current model of globalised development. The new body of work speaks of how individuals are shaped into increasingly abstract personalities by the overpowering force of the city and its visual stimuli. Unique identities are becoming lost to the dissonance that results from the chaos engendered by technology, visual communication, mass media and urban development.
