On the watch face a crowd is constantly in motion: breaking apart and
reforming; ebbing and flowing. You can’t see individual faces, just legs
and feet constantly on the march. Crispin Jones explains the design, "this watch was the first
design that we have produced in London and as such I wanted it to
reflect my feelings about the city. What I kept returning to was the
volume of people and the constant sense of motion. As with any big city
there is also a sense of alienation - the crowd is not a friendly band,
but rather an ad hoc collection of individuals, all with their own goals
and destinations. Up until the early 20th century London was one of the principal centres of watch making. With the advent of the wristwatch the industry went into a steady decline. The idea of producing here in London has long been an aspiration and so we set our sights on establishing a workshop where we can produce and assemble our own watches. As a Londoner by birth it is a source of pride to be able to make a small contribution to the revival of London watchmaking". The figures in the design are drawn from a 1930s print by Sybil
Andrews called "Rush Hour”. Andrews was part of the Grosvenor School of
printmakers who worked in and were inspired by London during the 1920s
and 1930s. Case: Stainless steel Strap: Black leather with undyed white stitching Width (3 o'clock to 9 o'clock): 37mm Height (from lug to lug): 46mm Mechanism: Single jewel quartz mechanism Waterproof: 5ATM Guarantee: 12 months by # Mr Jones Watches | |
