What began as a celebration of visible construction and contrasting materials in the DD01, DD02 and DD03 models continues to evolve as the MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA collaboration moves onto a sculptural, three-dimensional level this season with the introduction of DD04. Here the property of one material is shown to full effect. Furnishing the DD04 with a more ‘plastic’ look than the preceding models is acetate; a material composed of cotton and colored pigment that has been used in the manufacture of spectacles since production first began. The design elements of the preceding models have been transferred to this sculptural material, resulting in a fresh form of expression. The signet-like element of the design series, a detail interrupted by the circular contours, is also present in the DD04 style. The minimal style of the temples, a reference to the historical look of the early 1930s, is reinterpreted for the here and now, adding the finishing touch to the design aesthetic of this quartet. "I’m happy to present DD04 at the A/W 2013/14 show. It’s the fourth round-shaped style that we developed and in a way it’s the end of the first cycle of products we developed. To me it’s the perfection of shape, material and size,” says designer Damir Doma. Inspired by the colors of the autumn/winter 2014 collection, DD04 comes in translucent color combinations: yellow Amber, milky-gray Taupe, tobacco-colored Tobago and classic Black is paired with green, brown and black lenses. DD04 is available as sunglasses or prescription frames, and is fitted with lenses from the pioneering optical solutions specialist ZEISS. All models from the MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA collaboration will be available via the MYKITA shops, the DAMIR DOMA flagship store, as well as selected opticians and fashion outlets as of May 2013.
