FUNDarte presents its annual declaration of the arts - Miami On Stage 2013, April 18-20. The cleverly curated weekend features new, hybrid music and art installations from Miami-based performers. The venue? Miami’s new vortex for homegrown performance visionaries: the On.Stage Black.Box at Miami-Dade County Auditorium This year's showcase features Miami’s current crop of outstanding Latino musicians leading the hybrid-music pack. With their all-original new work, each is known for colliding their traditional ethnic roots with mainstream pop influences: singer Leslie Cartaya, percussionist Alfredo Chacón and rapero Mr. Haka. The weekend happening also includes a visual arts component from multimedia artist Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez. She takes Miami On Stage’s eclectic energies and wraps them all up into a bow with one of her thought-provoking visual installations, "mujer_city-MIA.” Her new experiential film creation confronts topical women’s issues and tackles thorny sexual stereotypes by weaving itself invasively throughout the theater’s common areas (and into theater-goers minds). Celebrating its fourth year, Miami On Stage provides a catalyst for Miami artists to present original work at a critical point often neglected by the local performance-series circuit - the jumping-off place just beyond the premiere and commissioning stages. This creates a much-needed platform for new performances to reach a wider range of audiences during the three-night showcase. Celebrating its tenth anniversary as one of Miami’s leading cultural institutions, FUNDarte is funded in part by the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council, by the City of Miami Beach, by the Knight Foundation for the Arts, by The Miami Foundation, and by South Arts. by News Travels Fast | |
