21:17 Guggenheim Museum and Dior Announce Dates for the 2014 | |
 Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation; Jennifer Blei Stockman, President, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation; Sidney Toledano, President and CEO, Christian Dior Couture; and Raf Simons, Artistic Director, Christian Dior Couture, announced Dior’s continued support today as lead sponsor of the 2014 Guggenheim International Gala (GIG), which will take place November 5 and 6, 2014. This year, the annual benefit will honor artists Carrie Mae Weems, whose retrospective was on view at the museum this spring; Heinz Mack, Otto Piene, and Günther Uecker, members of the German artist group Zero, whose work will be presented in the exhibition ZERO: Countdown to Tomorrow, 1950s–60s, on view at the museum from October 10, 2014, through January 7, 2015; and Beijing-based contemporary artist Wang Jianwei, whose commissioned work will be exhibited in Wang Jianwei: Time Temple, on view at the museum from October 31, 2014, through February 16, 2015.

The GIG will kick off with a pre-party and special guest performance hosted by the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council on Wednesday, November 5. The benefit dinner will take place the following evening on Thursday, November 6. The funds raised are in support of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, benefiting the museum’s general operating fund, which helps to present a dynamic array of internationally acclaimed exhibitions, offer a comprehensive range of educational programs, and maintain the unparalleled collections of modern and contemporary works of art as well as the facilities within the museum’s landmark building.
