Opening night at Art Dubai Contemporary
Book Launches 3pm – 4pm : Slavs & Tatars Mirrors for Princes, edited by Anthony Downey Anthony Downey of Ibraaz interviews the collective Slavs and Tatars. Exploring Islamic medieval advice literature for princes, the book of scholarly essays premieres during Slavs and Tatars’ exhibition at the new NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery on Saadiyat Island. The launch of a new series of books edited by Jalal Toufic and published by Sharjah Art Foundation. Two books: The Dancer’s Two Bodies by Jalal Toufic and The Accident Waiting to Happen by Matthew Gumpert are included in the launch. The author Jalal Toufic will be at the event. Unlimited Arab Exploration: A Public Privacy Bringing together recent and commissioned works by a group of emerging Emirati, locally based and GCC artists, ‘A Public Privacy’ will be the inaugural exhibition launching ‘U.A.E. Unlimited Arab Exploration’, a new platform promoted and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. The inaugural exhibition, ‘A Public Privacy’ is curated by Mohammed Kazem and Cristiana de Marchi. Location: Mashreq Private Banking Lounge, Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah 7-8pm: Summer Autumn Winter… and Spring: Conversations with Artists from the Arab World Curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath and artists Manal Al Dowayan, Hassan Sharif and Joana Hadjithomas discuss how informal conversations between them have evolved into a documentation of several personal and professional positions. The panel marks the launch of Bardaouil and Fellrath’s latest book, published by Skira Publishing Group.
