In terms of fashion, this ruler of reinvention has been sparking imaginations for decades. In more recent years he’s certainly been inspiring our designers here at NJAL, with jewellery designer Bjørg’s pieces even being selected to feature in his new music video, The Stars (Are Out Tonight). All of a sudden it became okay, even desirable to be different. With an exhibition at the V&A and the release of his new album earlier this month, we look back on the career and life of the man who broke all the rules and redefined rock and roll. Read on to discover more about David Bowie’s remarkable journey. Bjørg, Germany Bjørg Nordii-Mathisen began her career making one-of-a-kind jewellery whilst living in India. With an extensive creative background she has upheld a nomadic lifestyle, always drifting towards new corners of the world in search of inspiration. Her most recent success is the featuring of a selection of her jewellery, in David Bowie’s video for his single The Stars (Are Out Tonight). She uses 100% natural materials to craft her collections, and her current 2013 Odyssey collection ‘is a visual scenario of colours and materials merging and melting.’ still image from video directed by Floria Sigismondi T H E    N J A L    D I A R Y    S U G G E S T S Institute for Fashion Design, Basel The Institute for Fashion Design in Basel, Switzerland, directed by Priska Morger, is hosting it’s annual graduate show on Saturday 23rd March 2013. Held at the Kaserne Basel, it has become known as one of the most creative displays of young design talent in the calendar. Over 1,000 spectators from all over the world, including NJAL’s Charlotte Freier, will be coming together to admire and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this outstanding event. by NOT JUST A LABEL
