Baroque will be this year's major exhibition at the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, in Stockholm. In collaboration with the Nationalmuseum, this cross-genre exhibition presents classic works by Baroque icons alongside contemporary artists.
Joana Vasconcelos is participating with a new work, Volupta, created for this exhibition and made with Viúva Lamego tiles and gargoyles, and handmade woolen crochet. Perruque, the sculpture-wig-furniture firstly conceived to be presented in Marie Antoinette's room in Versailles, is also displayed.
The contemporary part will gather works from an international set of acclaimed artists, namely Lida Abdul, Vasco Araújo, John Coplans, Isaac Julien, Alberto García-Alix,Candida Höfer, Makode Linde, Cristina Lucas, Vik Muniz, Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Juergen Teller and Adriana Varejão. The 17th century will be represented by Rembrandt van Rijn, El Greco, Georges de La Tour, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco de Zurbarán, among others.
The exhibition opens on Friday, 4 April, at 17.00, and runs until 19 October.
