A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF) is the world's first annual festival dedicated to fashion films. Launched by Diane Pernet in September 2008 as a three-day event at Paris's Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, ASVOFF moved to the Centre Pompidou in 2009 where it has been beguiling audiences ever since. ASVOFF is not only a competition of short films about fashion, style and beauty but also a travelling international event showcasing feature films, documentaries, conferences, performances and installations. Genre-bending and groundbreaking, it has already brought together such illustrious names as Chris Cunningham, Róisín Murphy, Nick Knight, Tilda Swinton, Daphne Guinness, Steven Klein, Chloë Sevigny, Dita Von Teese, Bruce Weber and Ryan McGinley as well as Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Comme des Garcons, Rodarte, Prada, Givenchy, Yohji Yamamoto, Thom Browne and many others. After its annual autumn premiere in Paris, ASVOFF also travels to several prestigious events and institutions around the world. Thanks to the organization of Aurora Fashion Week Russia, ASVOFF will very shortly make its debut in St. Petersburg. With the express purpose of hosting ASVOFF St. Petersburg, ASVOFF's founder Diane Pernet will visit the city for the very first time. As one of the most recognisable faces in fashion, Diane is a legendary and enigmatic figure in the front rows of catwalk shows around the world – thanks in part to her captivating black ensembles, signature 'shades' and requisite red lipstick. But besides her striking personal style, Diane is considered a visionary and a pioneer among fashion industry circles. She was one of the earliest fashion journalists to embrace the power of the internet, first through a column in online editions of Elle and Vogue and then through her now famous blog www.ASVOF.com. Since creating her festival ASVOFF as both a platform and incubator, she has nurtured ‘fashion film’ from its infancy to the popular genre that it is becoming today – which has in turn helped to revolutionize the fashion industry and breathe life into static photography. This talented Parisian critic, video journalist, blogger -- and former designer of her own label in New York for ten years – is now making waves in fashion and cinema. Diane's upcoming visit to Saint-Petersburg will be an extraordinary event not just for the city but for Russia in general. Diane says about her upcoming visit: "I have long heard about the rich culture, prolific art and creative spirit of Saint-Petersburg. So as I introduce fashion film to the city, I hope that the city will in turn introduce me to some of its masters and cutting edge creators of art, fashion, music and cinema." As part of ASVOFF St. Petersburg we will be showing DIANA VREELAND: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL on February 7th at 19:00 at "Aurora.Nevsky" (Nevsky, 74). The screening is open to anyone who would like to see a fashion movie that has not yet been shown on a big screen. And on February 14 at 19:00, the boutique Boscofamily (Nevsky, 11) will become a movie theatre in order to host the special movie event «Fashion films в Boscofamily». The official venue for ASVOFF St. Petersburg on February 16 will be "Kino&Teatr" at the Angleter Hotel (B.Morskaya, 39). The programme consists of short Russian movies, one of which Diane will choose as the winner and have the opportunity to take part in the 6th edition of ASVOFF held in Paris later this year. The after party will be at Mansarda restaurant (Pochtamskaya, 3). Press/image ASVOFF | |
