The annual London Design Festival is nearly upon us. The Festival will run from 13-21 September with an extensive and varied programme of installations, exhibitions, events, talks and tours across the capital. The Victoria and Albert Museum will again provide the 'hub', hosting a range of exciting, experimental and immersive projects. Highlights include: ACE HOTEL Ace Hotel London Shoreditch will be a central destination during London Design Festival as the Shoreditch Design Triangle's official hub location. The hotel will host a series of design-focused installations and activities by Modern Design Review in the show 'Super Stimuli' working with designers Fabien Cappello, Martino Gamper, Michael Marriott and Bethan Laura Wood. Italy-based research workshop and studio Fabrica will also present 'Extra-Ordinary Gallery', a study of ordinary things designed by a team of multi-cultural designers, in the hotel's reception retail space. Ace Hotel is well known for its support of local commerce and culture - as well as innovative partnerships with local businesses, artisans and creatives. AFRODITIKRASSA Leading bar and restaurant design studio, AfroditiKrassa, has designed TwoRuba, Hilton Tower Bridge's new destination bar. The new look to this established hotel is part of the Hilton's ongoing transformation of the brand. AfroditiKrassa has transformed TwoRuba into a space which is versatile and can transform seamlessly from casual coffee bar in the daytime to a sleek destination lounge bar at night. The new bar reflects the area's rich historical background - the iconic Tower Bridge, the modernity of the City's buildings and the choice of materials used has been inspired by the location's earlier role as a Leather, Hide and Wool Exchange. The new bar opens on 24thSeptember. AIRBNB Airbnb is collaborating with the London Design Festival on a 'Landmark Project' in Trafalgar Square entitled 'A Place Called Home'. The project has invited four designers to explore the concept of home. Jasper Morrison, Patternity, Raw Edges and Studioilse will present a personal vision of a room examining what home. The unique interiors range from a room that expands and contracts to the home of a pigeon fancier. The installation celebrates Airbnb's community of creative hosts and travellers. ATRIUM London lighting showroom Atrium, provides the setting for Architectural Lighting a collaboration with FLOS and Swedish photographer Carl Kleiner, during this year's London Design Festival. The exhibition comprises a series of beautifully realised, abstract photographic compositions, aligned into perfect geometric grids. Each one incorporates FLOS luminaries together with sections of coloured paper and industrial materials such as sandpaper, marble, wood and brass. The Architectural Lighting exhibition was first shown in Milan and this is its first time in the UK. Atrium's new showroom is close to Old Street, in the heart of east London's creative industries hub. Architectural Lighting, 15th - 19th September 2014, 10am - 5pm. Press Preview, 16th September 2014, 9am - 11am. BARONCELLI London based design studio Baroncelli celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. Founded by Rinda Baroncelli in 1994, the company was set up to introduce a strong contemporary design ethos into the centuries-old craft of Murano glass design. Over two decades, Baroncelli has developed into a contemporary studio. It is now led by Giovanni Corrado, Rinda' son, who joined Baroncelli as Creative Director in 2004. Under Giovanni's direction, Baroncelli has established itself as an influential and innovative studio. He launched the first in-house edition, Matteo, in 2006 and new pieces have been added every year including Baroncelli's signature editions such as Saturno, Crono, Arbor and, most recently, Flexus which incorporate new technologies, in particular, LEDs. While much of the production is still made on Murano island near Venice, Giovanni has expanded the design brief, continuing to work with master craftsmen to push their creativity and to explore new way of designing with glass. Baroncelli will be showcasing their signature designs at designjunction and Decorex this September and also launching the Arlo chandelier to mark their anniversary. BOFFI Boffi, a name synonymous with design innovation and excellence, celebrates its 80 year history and new showroom partnership with Italian furniture company Living Divani. Boffi Chelsea's new look showroom complete with new Xila kitchen with iconic Extrasoft modular sofa by Piero Lissoni, K14 modular kitchen system and Monoblock kitchen K20 by Norbert Wangen and new Living Divani collections launches during London Design Festival. CEO of Boffi Roberto Gavazzi and Founders of Living Divani Renata and Luigi Bestetti will co-host an evening event on Thursday 18 September, for more information and press interview requests. CITIZENM During the London Design Festival citizenM, the award-winning Dutch hotel group, will celebrate its passion for design and its partnership with long-time design collaborator VITRA. For the duration of the Festival, the heart of citizenM Bankside will be transformed into a secluded oasis of lush green foliage showcasing Vitra's Bistro Table and new outdoor Eames DKR Wire Chairs into which visitors can sink and take advantage of the free WiFi. From late afternoon onwards, the garden will resound with cool tunes curated specially for the garden by resident DJs provided by Popshop. Festival goers can choose from a selection of bespoke cocktails made by citizenM's in-house mixologists. ERCOL ercol will be presenting a range of new furniture on the second floor of designjunction at the Old Sorting Office during the London Design Festival. The furniture company is also contributing twelve chairs to a charity project initiated by the designjunction team in support of Teddy's Wish, to fund research into the causes of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Anglepoise has also contributed to the project and a total of 24 pieces have been re-designed and re-interpreted by many of leading designers including Tom Dixon, Paul Cocksedge, Donna Wilson, Benjamin Hubert and others. The chairs and lamps will be auctioned during designjunctions and the winning bids will be announced on 21 September. GRAHAM & BROWN During the London Design Festival, Graham & Brown will launch their latest wallpaper collaboration with style icon and founder of Biba, Barbara Hulanicki. The new designs, showcased at Super Brands, coincide with the V&A's upcoming book launch of The Biba Years, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Biba, founded in 1964. Barbara's latest, exclusive wallpaper collection with Graham & Brown features two new designs - The Hypnotist (pictured) and Funky Flora - in seven colour-ways and is inspired by dress prints used in the early Biba decade, 1964-1974. This is the third collaboration between Graham & Brown and Barbara Hulanicki, who share a passion for the constant reinvention of design. Barbara will join Graham & Brown at The Truman Brewery on Stand 19 on Thursday 18th September from 2pm-6pm to celebrate her latest venture with Britain's biggest wallpaper company. KVADRAT Kvadrat will launch a new textile collection by Alfredo Häberli which will be celebrated with a special installation by the designer in the London showroom at 10 Shepherdess Walk. The installation features a large-scale mood board which expresses the creative process that goes into producing the textiles. The press preview will take place on Wednesday 17th September, 9am - 11am. Alfredo Häberli will be available for interviews during the press preview. The Shepherdess Walk Studio will be open from 16-22 September 2014 10am-7pm daily. Press Preview: Tuesday 16th September, 9-11am. LEE BROOM Lee Broom is launching Nouveau Rebel, a new collection of lighting and accessories which uses pure Carrara marble. One of the new pieces on show will be the Globe Light, a domed table light that gives a warming glow through the translucent marble. Visitors to his showroom to see the new collection will be invited into an immersive journey through the space to discover the collection displayed on graphic plinths hidden from view and set within a dramatic curtained maze. The new collection will be on show at Electra House in Rivington Street from 17-21 September. YOO HOME YOO Home makes its London Design Festival debut with a number of exclusive launches at its dedicated space in Harrods. During the London Design Festival, Matthew Dalby, Design Director for YOO and Sean Dare from the award winning British design company, Studio Dare will be 'In Conversation...' at Decorex on Wednesday 24th September. The two creatives will explore how residential and hospitality trends are influencing the retail market, the benefits of collaborating with international brands and what sets British designers apart. Dalby curates YOO's residential and hospitality design projects and has been integral in the brand's most recent development to launch its own retail interiors collection, YOO Home; Dare is one of YOO Home's Best of British Designer with a number of his contemporary furniture designs and exclusive pieces. YOO Home is part of the Harrods Design Trail during LDF; exclusive launches include pieces from Dutch design brand, Moooi and Maserati by Zanotta, one of the leaders in modern and contemporary Italian furniture design. BACCARAT At Maison et Objet in Paris this September, Baccarat will present an exhibition dedicated to the work of Georges Chevalier (Artistic Director of Baccarat from 1916 to 1970). Chevalier's aesthetic and work was a huge influence on the brand and his style continues to be felt. For example, his creation, The Sun Clock, was reissued this year to mark Baccarat's 250th Anniversary. Baccarat will also launch 'Luxour', an Art Deco-inspired collection of jewellery designed by Elie Top in red crystal. THE RUBY TREE The Ruby Tree, co-founded by current Elle Decoration Best British Designer, Bethan Gray and scholar and great revivalist of Islamic art and craft, Mitchell Abdul Karim Crites, launches its first collection exclusively at Harrods this November. The collection presents a series of beautiful grand furniture and tableware accessories. Each piece is entirely unique and a precious work of art, made from the finest materials such as lapis lazuli, ruby, rose quartz and marble. Along with its signature collections, The Ruby Tree also offers a bespoke service for those seeking exclusive, exciting and exceptional pieces. The Ruby Tree seeks to keep highly specialised, endangered arts and crafts alive with the fusion of contemporary design and age old traditional techniques. CHAMBER Chamber, a boutique devoted to limited edition and unique works of art and design, will open in Chelsea, New York City in late September. Chamber Collection #1 is curated by Studio Job and is comprised of specially commissioned, rare and vintage works by a range of talented creatives, including Maarten Baas, Aldo Bakker, Gijs Baaker, Irma Boom, Tord Boontje, Nacho Carbonell, Cmmnwlth, Formafantasma, Tom Dixon, Piet Hein Eek, Front, Nendo, Richard Hutten, Esther Janssen, Joep van Lieshout, Alessandro Mendini, Piet Parra, Dieter Rams, Jakob Smits, Dirk Vander Kooij, Viktor & Rolf, Richard Woods and more. Highlights from the collection include a perfume designed specifically for Chamber by Buenos Aires-based perfumery Fueguia 1833, a series of rugs by Matali Crasset, Lanzavecchia + Wai and Studio Job for Nodus, vintage Theo Ruth chairs upholstered with specially commissioned fabrics by Wim Crouwel, Julius Vermuelen, Studio Job and Swip Stolk, vintage Delvaux purses, vintage Dutch toys and a number of items designed by Dieter Rams for Braun. The graphic identity and limited edition catalogue design for Chamber is by New York-based graphic design shop Studio Lin. ROYAL NORWEGIAN CONSULATE For this year's NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, Printed Matter will highlight Norway with NORWAY FOCUS: KUNSTNERBØKER, a section of the fair featuring works from over 20 Norwegian booksellers, artists and museums. The NY Art Book Fair is the world's largest book fair for artists' books and related publications. The fair features over 300 exhibitors from 20 countries, and is attended by 27,000 visitors.
