Continuing its joint celebration of art and fashion, Gap and Visionaire launch the second installment of eleven collectible, limited edition t-shirts on May 9th. The series is dedicated to color using UV-sensitive inks, embroidery, foils, screen- printing and full-coverage photographic printing.|
Seven t-shirts use special UV-sensitive ink originally developed and published in Visionaire No. 56 SOLAR. The t-shirts feature artwork by Alex Katz, Yoko Ono, Richard Phillips, Ugo Rondinone, Peter Lindbergh, Francois Berthoud and Roe Ethridge which transform into color when exposed to direct sunlight. In addition, there are three t-shirts featuring photographic printing of artwork by Mario Sorrenti, Marc Quinn and Tony Oursler. Due to popular demand, the 11th t-shirt is a re-issue of Yoko Ono’s “Grow Love With Me” from the first series re-imagined in gold foil on white.
To celebrate the partnershipʼs merger of art and fashion, Gap will host an outdoor experience showcasing the collection at Frieze Art Fair, the four-day art fair that takes place annually in New York and London, where the t-shirts will be available for purchase. The non- traditional retail space will live at Frieze New York on Randallʼs Island from May 9th – 12th. The third edition of Frieze New York will feature over 190 of the worldʼs leading contemporary galleries, with 53 participants from the fairʼs host city. With a limited number of 500 t-shirts being made of each artwork, the collectible t-shirts will only be available in key global Gap Flagship stores, select Visionaire retailers, OpeningCeremony.us, Gap Boxpark in London, Gap White Space in Tokyo and Gap White Space in New York, which will be dedicated to the Visionaire partnership from May 9th – May 18th. ed as a rotating retail space, the Gap White Space serves as a concept lab that captures the global brand inspiration.
Throughout 2014, the collaboration will continue to introduce limited edition collectible t-shirts celebrating themes and art from past and future issues of Visionaire, both through key Gap Flagship stores and selected independent retailers.
