 To mark the debut of LikeBike, the luxury bicycle show that will be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Montecarlo from April 3 to 5, the Pininfarina stand will display two projects that embody the Fuoriserie concept: the Pininfarina Fuoriserie Bike and the Pininfarina Fuoriserie Micro-Bolide. Pininfarina has always had a natural vocation for developing custom-built cars. This exceptional capacity to interpret the dreams of its customers, building unique cars or small production runs, underpinned Carrozzeria Pinin Farina’s rapid rise to fame in Italy and abroad in the 1930s and 1940s. Reinventing its artisan roots, today Pininfarina continues to dedicate resources and skills to the creation of unique models or very small production runs, offering impassioned collectors of unique cars the possibility to create their own “dream car”. For some time now, Pininfarina has been extending the Fuoriserie concept outside the automotive world, offering extraordinary objects that were designed and built around the dreams of people with a passion for beauty. And so the Pininfarina Fuoriserie Bike was born. Its name is redolent of exclusive high performance cars, and it is manufactured by 43 Milano in a limited edition of 30 units, a reference to the Thirties when Pininfarina was founded. With its elegant, pure line, it is enhanced by a mixture of classic and modern materials. The frame is made of chrome-plated steel tubes, hand-welded by expert craftsmen and finished with a walnut veneer. References to tradition are evident in the handlebars and saddle, which are covered with The Bridge leather, inspired by the braided leather used on the interior of the Lancia Astura Bocca of 1936, which was designed by Pininfarina, who built just 6 examples. There are numerous innovations that balance the traditional elements: the Bike+ booster system which optimises the cyclist’s energy with a miniaturised electric motor, so that the rider can go further; the LED lighting system based on a brand new high performance lamp; and the “connect the plug” system to charge mobile phones using the dynamo. The unique nature of the bicycle is further enhanced by bags tailor-made by The Bridge and by the Pininfarina logo etched in the brake lever. LikeBike also marks the world debut of the Pininfarina Fuoriserie Micro-Bolide. This is a high tech pedal-driven micro racing car, a gem with unique styling, a proper racing car tailor-made for a young driver. Drawing on its 85 years of experience in car design, the Pininfarina team has given the Micro-Bolide sinuous, elegant lines, and a very sporty character. This character is enhanced by the concentrate of innovation provided by Scuderie Campari, Pininfarina’s partner and renowned excellence in the millwork of the carbon fibre. Scuderie Campari will take care of the engineering, manufacturing and assembling of the Micro-Bolide, while the upholstery and the painting will be hand-made at the Pininfarina’s atelier. It will be a limited series of 30 one-off, each one equipped with mechanical parts in titanium and aeronautical aluminium AL 7075-T6, a monocoque carbon fibre chassis, pedal transmission with rear-wheel drive, 12” carbon fibre semi-lenticular wheels and bodywork treated with Sport polish, an adhesive product used in Formula 1. The steering wheel will be of marine wood, covered with carbon fibre and The Bridge leather, and the same material will upholster the seats. The number 85 on the side, to recall Pininfarina’s 85th anniversary, adds an extra touch of sportiness. Because of its bespoke nature, the model can be extensively customised to create a dream car, a gem to be handed down from one generation to another. “With the Fuoriserie project we started from man and we have created bespoke items designed to make dreams come true,” said Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group. “It is a return to our roots and to the values that have made Pininfarina famous around the world.” The Pininfarina stand will also host the Cambiano concept car, which won the Interior Design of the year Award in 2012.
